The Safari
Have you ever seen an Endangered Species before? There are a handful of endangered species in South Carolina and our friends over at the Hitchcock Woods Foundation just down the road in Aiken have a booming population of endangered Red-cockaded Woodpeckers residing on their property. These birds are habitat specialists that require healthy Longleaf Pine habitat. We'll learn from the forest managers and biologists at Hitchcock Woods about what it takes to maintain healthy longleaf pine habitat and will venture to one of the nesting clusters on the property with the intent to lay eyes on a family group of Woodpeckers.

Once we're all together, I will give us a quick briefing and then we will begin our workshop. We'll spend time with HWF Superintendent Bennett & Biologist Mark learning about the importance of Longleaf Pine habitat, the History of Hitchcock Woods, and what it takes to manage this property for Endangered Red-cockaded Woodpeckers.
